THE COOTERS are one of the longest running rock bands in the state of Mississippi. Their high octane sound is influenced by Heavy Metal, Punk Rock, and Southern Rock. Born and bred in Oxford, Mississippi, The Cooters have a storied career that is still going strong.
The first incarnation came in 1993, with Newt Rayburn (bass & vocals), Gentry Webb (guitar & vocals), and Tyler Keith (drums) coming together to form RAW COOTER & THE TENNESSEE PRIDE in Oxford Mississippi.
After Keith joined THE NECKBONES on guitar later that year, Newt and Gentry transformed into The Cooters in 1994 with Mikey Namorato on drums.
Over the last twenty years, The Cooters have performed hundreds of shows in the South, Mid-West, East Coast, and the West Coast of America. The band has released a rough dozen of CDs, albums, singles, and vinyl records. They continue to perform live and record on a regular basis.
The Cooters celebrate their 20th year in 2014 and are currently putting the finishing touches on a new EP at Black Wings Studio in Water Valley, Mississippi with Winn McElroy producing.
